Self-Contained Classroom
Jenell Martin - Special Education

I am the Self-Contained with Inclusion Teacher for the 7th-12th grade students.  I have taught at West Burlington for 9 years in the Special Educatin Program.

I believe that the Sky is the limit for learning.  I became a special educator so that I could help students who struggle to see that they too can succeed.  They can learn as long as they believe that they can.  It is just in a little different way.  My job is to help them find what works best for them.

I am a Burlington native, I graduated form Notre Dame High School and then I earned my Bachelor's Degree at Western Illinois University in Macomb.  I am the proud mother of three boys, and an avid sports fan.  I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with my family as well as routing on my favorite teams.

I am currently working on my Masters in Strategist Level 1 and Reading in Education through Morningside college and Great Prairie AEA.  I hope to complete this in the next few years.

I am also team-teaching the Second Chance Reading classes with Mr. Reed.  This is one of the highlights in my career, as this program is very rewarding for the students as well as the teachers.  It has enabled me to join the special education students in the general education setting to help them as they are learning.  As well as it has enabled me the oppurtunity to work with other excellent West Burlington Teachers and learn new techniques from them.  It has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to being out in the classroom with our students more often.
