Mondrian Place Value Art is inspired by Dutch artist Piet Mondrian, who used shapes and colors in abstract art. This activity helps students visualize place value through art. Mrs. Hoenthaner's 4th grade class created designs using place value blocks: large squares for hundreds, longs for tens, and tiny cubes for ones.

Always fun to run into WB alumni! Mr. Jones recently ran into Joslyn Hawkins (Hicks) at the Good Makers Market at the Cedar County Fairgrounds. Joslyn is a 2013 graduate from West Burlington. Graduating from WB sparked a love for small Iowa towns. Joslyn shared that West Burlington helped equip her with the tools to be a future entrepreneur through early business classes, and the opportunity to be a part of several student organizations. After graduation she got her masters degree working as a Speech Language Pathologist in the schools. Wellness education is a key passion of Joslyn’s which led her to launch her food truck Bloom in 2022. She serves rural towns in Iowa promoting Whole Foods. They are best known for their delicious açaí bowls. Her rig Big Bessie - she sure is a looker - is a 1950 Wonder Bread truck with custom designs. Joslyn and her husband Kyle reside in Deep River, IA with their 9 month old Luna and their two dogs Niko and Simba.
We'd love to celebrate more WBAHS alumni stories! Feel free to message us with yours.
